Event: International Year of Astronomy : 100 Hours of Astronomy |
Time/Place: 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. / Mendel Observatory
In 1609, Galileo first turned his telescope to the sky and observed the universe.
Today, 400 years later, we celebrate this anniversary.
The International Astronomical Union and the United Nations have officially named 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy.
Throughout this year, amateur and professional astronomers will bring the
universe to the earth. Events aimed at raising public awareness of astronomy are
being planned throughout the region, country, and world.
On April 2-5,2009 people around the globe will come together for 100 hours of astronomy. An event that aims to
get as many people as possible to observe the sky (day or night!) for
100 hours straight. The Villanova Astronomy and Astrophysics department,
along with the Villanova Astronomical Society extends an invitation to
the Villanovan community to join us as we celebrate 400 years of
observational endeavors.
