| Summary of Course Requirements |
- Pre-matriculation acquisition of 8 hrs credit for AP Biology or completion of
general biology at Villanova/other credited four-year college in the summer prior
to Fall admittance.
- The BS/MS degree has 156 credits, which is ten credits less
than the two degree programs at Villanova considered separately. Of the 156 credits,
the total undergraduate biology credits equal 117 including 27 undergraduate biology
course credits, 32 science auxiliary course requirements, 51 humanities and social
science core requirements, and 4 research credits. The total
graduate credits include:
26 biology course credits and 16 research credits. This is in comparison to our
undergraduate degree requirement of 36 biology course credits and MS degree of 20
course credits.
- The Liberal Arts & Sciences undergraduate Core Curriculum requirements
and supplementary science requirements are identical to those for a BS degree at
Villanova. That is, 51 non-natural science/math core requirements and 32 auxiliary
science requirements.
- The only current undergraduate biology course requirement
changed for this combined degree is the substitution of the senior seminar (
BIO 5100
) with the graduate research prospectus course,
BIO 8920
.
- The combined degree
is unique with respect to its research requirement when compared to either the traditional
bachelor or masters degrees in biology at Villanova. The BS/MS degree stresses research
experience from the very beginning.
