Gamma Sigma Epsilon

National Chemistry Honor Society

General Information

Gamma Sigma Epsilon, a national honorary chemical society, was founded at Davidson College, Davidson, NC on December 19, 1919. The organization now has 22 active chapters in 13 states, and is growing rapidly. Thousands of students have been members of Gamma Sigma Epsilon since its inception.  The government of the fraternity is vested in its Conventions, which are held biennially, and in its national officers, who are elected at the Conventions. The national officers currently are:

Dr. Parvathi Murthy, Georgian Court College, Executive President
Dr. Pamela Kerrigan, Manhattan College/Mount St. Vincent, Executive President-Elect
Dr. Eduard Casillas, Villanova University, Recorder (Secretary)
Dr. George Fisher, Barry University, Executive Treasurer
Dr. Tim Causgrove, Mississippi University for Women, Executive Director of Archives

At each convention the National Officers present awards to the chapters which have been the most active, have had the greatest all-around development, and have done the most to develop the welfare of the Fraternity.

Method of Establishing Chapters

Chapters of Gamma Sigma Epsilon are established by the national officers, following its approval of a petition from a local group. There must be four or more student charter members of the group, and the petition should include a statement of the purpose of the group, and the scholastic requirements for election to membership of the group. It must be signed by the members of the group, and should be accompanied by letters from the head of the chemistry department and the president of the college. Petitions should be sent to the Executive President.
