Application Procedures

Completed applications are due to the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (SAC 138) by March 17, 2010.


Instructions

A completed application consists of the following:

1.  All applicants must review and closely follow the “Connelly-Delouvrier Application Instructions” (below) and “Connelly-Delouvrier Application Checklist.”

2.  Application Form (vu username and password required) Available in the Spring of 2010.

3.  A Resume listing your college honors, scholarships, extracurricular activities, publications, community service, performances, employment, hobbies/interests, etc. that you consider most significant. (Uploaded with application either at the time of filling out the application or by going back into the application later.  Please label your resume clearly.  Pattern the file name as such: "Resume_last name.first initial.")

4.  Essays (Part I and Part II -below) that integrate your responses to the following questions (creative self-reflection is encouraged).  For guidance on writing such essays, please see the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships Essay Writing Tips page.   (Uploaded with application either at the time of filling out the application or by going back into the application later.  Please label your essays clearly.  Pattern the file name as such: "Essay1_last name.first initial," "Essay2_last name.first initial.")

  1. Part I – Program Statement (300 words): 

    a.  Provide a detailed description of the course of study you plan to pursue and related cultural activities.

    b.  If you are studying in a non-English-speaking country, what are the language requirements for your program? What is your current level of proficiency with that language and how do you plan to develop your language skills during your study abroad?

    c.  If you plan to study in an English-speaking country, how will this program contribute to your growth as a global citizen?

  2. Part II – Personal statement (700 words):

    a.  What draws you to pursue an international studies program? What do you hope to gain from this opportunity?

    b.  Why have you selected this particular country and this particular program?

    c.  What qualifies you to pursue this program of study?

    d.  How does this study-abroad program build upon and contribute to your undergraduate academic program? To your post-graduate academic/career goals? To your life goals?

    e. What particularly qualifies you to be an ambassador for Villanova? What will you contribute to the Villanova community by going abroad?

5.  Transcript(s): Villanova transcripts must be requested at least a day in advance from the Registrar's Office (202 Tolentine Hall). If you have attended other undergraduate institutions for previous full time or summer study, include transcript(s) or copies of your grade reports from these schools. Submit all transcripts to:

6.  Two Recommendations: Your recommendations should address your academic potential and your ability to flourish in a different cultural environment. Your recommenders should be professors. Please provide your recommenders with this webpage that contains the Recommendation instructions and coversheet.  The "Recommender Guidelines Letter" can be found here.
