Applying to a Program

Be sure to check the web site of the specific program to which you are applying for details and deadlines. 

Applicants to the Graduate School must file a formal application.  Details outlining a complete application are listed below as well as deadlines however; be sure to check with the individual department of the program to which you are applying to ensure a timely review of your application.  If you have any questions about the application process or your application status, please feel free to contact us.

Students are selected wholly on the basis of individual merit. The University does not discriminate against any students or applicants seeking admission on the basis of their race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, or sex.

Schedule an Appointment

If you have a special situation that requires an academic advisor, schedule an appointment with the department either by email or telephone.

Visit the Web site of your program for specific application requirements.

Complete Application

In order to insure a timely review, a complete application must be submitted. A complete application includes:

  1. Application for admission online. For a paper application please contact gradinformation@villanova.edu.
  2. Program specific application requirements must be completed as defined by each graduate program.
  3. Non-refundable application fee of $50.* (payable to Villanova University)
  4. Official transcripts (two copies) of all previous college work (both undergraduate and graduate) sent directly to the Graduate Studies Office, by the Registrar of the Colleges or Universities involved.
  5. Letters of recommendation (3) forwarded directly to the Director of the program to which you are applying.
  6. GRE scores
  7. TOEFL scores for international students
  8. Financial Certification for international students needing an F1 Visa.

*fee waived for students with a Villanova degree

Deadlines

For the doctoral program in Philosophy: Completed applications must be submitted by February 1 for fall admission.

General Application Deadlines
For all master’s programs and all graduate certificate programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences:
Fall:
Completed applications should be submitted by March 1 for fall admission. Applications will be considered until August 1.

Spring:
Completed applications should be submitted by November 15 for spring admission. Applications will be considered until December 1.

Summer:
Completed applications should be submitted by May 1 for summer admission.

For Consideration for Scholarships and Assistantships
Please note the priority deadlines are program-specific:
February 1
All application materials should be submitted by this date in order to be considered for scholarship/assistantships for these programs: Biology, Communication, Education (includes Counseling, Ed. Leadership and M.A. in Education), Hispanic Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Administration.

March 1
All application materials should be submitted by this date in order to be considered for scholarship/assistantship for the following programs: Applied Statistics, Chemistry, Classical Studies, Computer Science, Counseling and Human Relations, Criminology Law and Society, English, History, Human Resource Development, Liberal Studies, Mathematics, M.A. in Education plus Teacher Certification, Psychology, Software Engineering, Theatre and Theology.
