BACHELOR-MASTER’S PROCESS
MONITORING GRADUATE COURSES AND FORMALLY ADMITTING
UNDERGRADUATES INTO THE PROGRAM
During the first semester of the junior year, qualified students are invited
to apply for admission into the Bachelor-Master’s Program in their department.
After the credentials of those applying are reviewed, the names of those
formally accepted into the five-year program (typically no more than five) are
sent to the Graduate Dean’s Office. (The bulk of this work is handled at the
Departmental level.)
A typical Bachelor-Master Student may enroll in up to three graduate courses
in their senior year*. Before enrolling in graduate courses as an undergraduate,
a pink card must be signed by the Program Director and forwarded to the Graduate
Dean’s Office for approval and then submitted to the Registrar.
When the student enters the last semester of senior year, it is not necessary
for the student to send an application form to the Graduate Studies Office, but
the Program Department must forward a:
“Five-Year Undergraduate/Graduate Program Information Form”
listing the graduate courses taken as an undergraduate (provided they are
graded a “B” or better) which are to be applied toward their graduate program.
This should be accompanied by a Compliance Report.
The student will then receive a modified acceptance letter indicating their
formal admission into their respective graduate program. This letter will
request a copy of the final official transcript. When the final transcript is
received and reviewed, the transfer of credit form will be forwarded to the
Registrar in order for the graduate courses taken as an undergraduate to be
applied toward the master’s degree.
The financial responsibility for the last three courses of the
Bachelor-Master’s Program is covered by the University. When the students
prepare to enter their last three courses toward the graduate degree, the
Program Department should notify a Graduate Studies staff member, and the
Graduate Studies staff member will supply the Bursar with the list of students’
names, course loads and the tuition remission account to which these courses are
to be charged.
(*In rare circumstances, an undergraduate may be permitted to enroll in an
additional graduate course. If this fourth course is “unused” toward the
undergraduate degree, it too can be transferred into the bachelor-master’s
program; however, in no case may more than three graduate courses (9 credits) be
applied toward both the Bachelor and Master’s degrees. Also, if a fourth
graduate course is transferred from the undergraduate transcript, the tuition
for only the last two courses (6 credits) of the program will be covered by the
University.)
Five-Year Program Information Form
This
form should be completed when a student in the five-year program has entered
the last semester of the undergraduate portion of his/her five-year program.
When submitting the form to the Dean's Office, please also submit an
undergraduate academic audit for the student.
