Request to enroll in a Graduate Course for undergraduates and other individuals not enrolled in a Graduate Studies program

  • Occasionally, a student requests permission to enroll in one of our graduate courses even though he/she is not officially enrolled in one of our Graduate Studies programs. This could be a Villanova undergraduate who is in need of specific information from a graduate course or possibly a student with a Bachelor's degree who is pursuing certification in a particular field. For these and other similar situations, if the student has not been officially admitted to one of our graduate programs, a pink permission card must be completed and submitted to our office.
  • An undergraduate student must have senior status and have a 3.0 grade point average. If the student meets these criteria and has obtained all of the necessary signatures, the card should be brought to our office for final approval. If the student is an evening student, the department can send the card to our office through campus mail. This will eliminate the inconvenience of a day trip to Villanova for the individual who is only able to travel to the University during evening hours.
  • We must limit these special enrollments to students with senior status and a 3.0 GPA or better in order to ensure that they have the proper background to enroll in one of our graduate courses. This will help us maintain the high quality of the graduate courses we currently offer to the students who are enrolled in our degree programs. It is also important to ensure that undergraduates not meeting this criteria realize that it is extremely important for them to concentrate on maintaining a respectable undergraduate grade point average. Enrolling in a 3 credit graduate course should be a much more challenging load than a 3 credit undergraduate course.
  • The processing of this request must be completed before the student attempts to register for the course. The Registrar's Office cannot accept a registration for a graduate course from a student who is not officially enrolled in one of our programs. The permission cards are available in the main office of the department and also in the Office of the Graduate Dean for Liberal Arts and Sciences.
