Welcome, Class of 2013!

We hope that you are enjoying your summer and we look forward to meeting you in August. We designed this reference page to give you ready access to important links and to provide you with information that will help in your transition to College. Please be sure to visit this Web site periodically, to obtain the most recent information available. Also, be sure to access your Villanova email account and check it often.  You will be receiving important information via email.

What is NOVASIS?

NOVASIS is the University’s student information system available on the World Wide Web. It works in conjunction with the student record system and allows students to access and update personal information. In addition, students can access their financial aid award information, their housing assignments & housing contracts, and look at their class schedules through the various links on the NOVASIS website. Students can register for classes and work-study students can enter their employee information online. New students should become familiar with all of the different functions that NOVASIS serves as it can be an important tool to organizing one’s college experience and receiving important information concerning student records.

Freshman On Line 2009 Site

Through NOVASIS, click on Enter Secure NOVASIS Area.  You can then access the Freshman 2009 site.  This site contains essential information which must be completed in a timely manner. Course selection, language test, consent and medical forms, and updating personal information are examples of a few. All items to be completed on line must be submitted by June 1, 2009. (It's a good idea to make copies of your completed medical forms for your records).

Advanced Placement Credit (AP)

If you have taken AP exams and supplied all required information on your AP registration answer sheet, your AP scores will be sent from the testing company to our Registrar's office in July. (It is your responsibility to provide the testing company with full information, such as personal identification, Villanova's college code, etc. so that the AP credit administration process can be accomplished efficiently.) Based on your scores, you may receive College credit at Villanova.

Freshman Schedules

You will be scheduled for five courses (Arts students) or five courses and one lab (Science students), in the first semester of your freshman year. Since there are many sections for each of these courses at various times, it will be necessary for the Registrar to assign your sections for the fall 2009 semester. Freshmen in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have several options in their course selection (see Freshman On Line 2009 Site, above). We cannot guarantee that you will be scheduled for your selections, but we will do our best to comply with your requests. The earliest replies will be given first consideration. Please note that schedules are apt to change throughout the summer, and will not be considered finalized until mid August.

You are strongly encouraged to view your schedule at that time, to assure that all circumstances, such as ROTC, Athletics, and AP Credits, Learning Communities, and/or Honors courses have been addressed. Contact the Office of Academic Advising if you have any questions or concerns.

To complete the mathematics requirement, students in liberal arts may take one math course and one computer science course or two math courses. The following information is provided for students who wish to take a computer science course.

  • CSC 1020, Computing and the Web. Useful for learning the concepts and technologies of tomorrow's Internet and Web and their role in the knowledge society.
  • CSC 1035, Databases for Beginners. Useful for an introduction to database technology
  • CSC 1040, Computing with Images. Especially suitable for those intending to be Communication majors
  • CSC 1051, Algorithms and Data Structures I. Required for Computer Science minors and Cognitive Science students

Health Professions

The degree required to pursue a career in the health professions can be as varied as the health professions themselves. An Economics major can become a Dentist and a History major can become a Geneticist! How? Careful selection of science and elective courses will allow you to complete the required pre requisite classes so that you will be prepared for post graduate work. It is critical that you speak with the Health Professions Advisor as soon as you have determined your interest. It is also critical that you take 2 sciences and related lab courses during your freshman year. Your academic advisor will work closely with you in the selection of your courses.

My Advisor

All first year students will be contacted by their faculty advisor by the end of June. Students should be able to view their advisor’s name by mid June. All students will meet with their academic advisor during Orientation. There will be time to discuss your schedule with your advisor.
