1. THE WASHINGTON CENTER

This is an organization that provides students with a complete internship program in the nation’s capital. Villanova has a thirty-year history with this organization and the results have been outstanding. Students go to Washington, live in apartment buildings (not dorms) in Northern Virginia or Maryland (always near a Metro stop), and intern four or five days a week. They also take a seminar related to the internship. Upon completion of the internship, students receive fifteen Villanova credits (three or six of which may fulfill major requirements, while the rest are free elective credits). In the past, students from the following majors have taken part in this program: political science, communication, history, sociology, and English. Financially, this program works well for most Villanova students. The student pays his or her tuition for that semester (does not pay room and board) and the student is provided with the internship, oversight by a large professional staff, a seminar taught by a local college professor or professional, an apartment, and various activities, such as breakfast lectures given by members of congress or cabinet members. That leaves the student responsible for travel and food expenses. This financial agreement does not exist during the summer sessions. For more information, go to www.twc.edu

2. THE LOS ANGELES INTERNSHIP

In connection with Temple University’s Film and Media Arts program, Villanova A&S students have taken part in this program over the last four years. Students from the Communication and English departments take part in this program from late May to the middle of July. Students who are interested in careers in the entertainment industry have found this to be a very valuable experience. Go to www.temple.edu/fma/losangeles/index.htm for more information.

3. THE VATICAN PROJECT

Villanova is the only university in the world with an internship program in the Vatican. Students from the Department of Computing Sciences and the Communication Department go to Rome, take courses, and intern at The Internet Office of the Holy See. Students interested in this program should be directed to Dr. John O’Leary.

4. INTERNSHIP WITH STUDY ABROAD

There are currently programs in London, Ireland, Australia, South America, and Switzerland.
