Dear Prospective Student:
It is no longer controversial to state that our future depends upon the nature
of our communication with one another. Both individually and socially,
communication shapes who we are. Realizing this (as well as the many careers and
paths of study that are open to students of Communication) an increasing number
of students are choosing their college based upon its Communication program.
However, prospective students often find this difficult—because there are no
good guides to the “top” programs in Communication, and programs differ so much
from one another. Hopefully this letter will give you a little more insight into
what our specific program offers, and why we have been recognized by the
National Communication Association as one of the country’s top undergraduate
programs in Communication. I invite you also to spend some time on our website,
looking at what we have to offer—and, after that,
contact us to get more information,
to make an appointment to meet with me, or get to know any of our top-notch faculty.
First, you should know that the Communication Department at Villanova University
is located within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This means that we
believe that the study of Communication builds upon the strong
intellectual foundation of our
liberal arts core curriculum.
This also means that our mission is to give you more than a set of technical
skills. As you can see from our mission statement,
we ground our students in the basic conceptual and research tools necessary to
success in any of our 8
specializations.
Villanova COM students, then, aren’t just technicians…they’re people who have
the ability to critically analyze, strategically plan, and speak and write well.
In other words, they leave our program educated in Communication, and not simply
trained.
This comprehensive vision for Communication education is why we’re one of the
largest majors at Villanova (and the largest in the College of Arts &
Sciences)—but there are also many other unique features of our program, so
check those out, too!
But I’ve said enough already. Why don’t you take a look around the site, see
more about who we are, what we have to offer, and what our students are doing.
Afterwards, if you have any questions or would like to sit in on a class please
call us at (610-519-4750).
Make Communication @ Villanova your academic destination!
Sincerely,
Bryan Crable, Ph.D.
