The Master's of Science in School Counseling makes provision for course concentration in Elementary or Secondary School Counseling,
and leads to approval for certification by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Special
Tuition Reduction for Teachers and School Administrators: 40% for those
employed by Catholic schools; 20% for those employed by non-Catholic schools
Students are required to take: the core program, including electives related
to the area of concentration, the comprehensive examination, which is an
integral part of the program, and demonstrate proficiency in counseling skills
during one-semester Practicum and a two-semester (6 credit) Internship. A total
of forty-eight (48) credits are required for the degree.
Students in the School Counseling Programs are eligible to apply for certification upon successful completion of their Master's degree program. Students seeking certification to work in Pennsylvania must complete all requirements for a Master's of Science degree in Counseling and Human Relations with a specialization in Elementary or Secondary School Counseling.
Students may take up to six years to complete the program. Students must take

CHR 8655 - Lab in Group Dynamics
CHR 8687 - Counseling Theory & Prac
and
CHR 8680 - School Counseling Orientation
within the first 12 hours of graduate work.
A thesis is not required, but may be done in lieu of six credits of elective study.
