Master of Arts in Teacher Education

Our program is designed to aid the certified teacher in:

  • strengthening and updating subject matter and professional knowledge;
  • completing course requirements for permanent certification in most states;
  • applying research to improve teaching practice;
  • pursuing special interests in education.

Special Tuition Reduction for Teachers and School Administrators:  40% for those employed by Catholic schools; 20% for those employed by non-Catholic schools.

Program Details

A minimum of 30 graduate credits is required for the Master of Arts in Education degree. A student may choose to take all 30 credits in Education or to combine credits in Education with graduate credits in a subject or teaching field. Upon receiving approval of the Department of Education and Human Services, a student may undertake the writing of a thesis in lieu of six semester-hour course credits.

All students are required to complete three one-credit workshops from a selection of listings approved for Graduate Teacher Education students. Prior to being awarded the degree, students must pass a comprehensive examination. This may be taken following the completion of 24 credits. Applicants seeking admission to the degree program should indicate their choice of one of the following specializations: Elementary Graduate Teacher Education or Secondary Graduate Teacher Education.
