Villanova University and the Department of Education and Human Services offer Post Masters work in Counseling. The Post Masters program is designed for professionals who have already completed their Master of Arts Degree in Counseling and are returning to earn additional credits for a variety of reasons. *Note: a degree from Villanova's Counseling Program is not required, simply a Master of Arts or Science Degree in Counseling from schools offering a similar degree.  Students may complete courses in Marriage & Family Therapy, Substance Abuse, or both.

The Post Masters Certification Program is a twelve (12) credit program that benefits professionals seeking academic credits for one of the following reasons:

Marriage & Family Therapy Option

The following courses are available for students seeking additional coursework in Marriage & Family Therapy:

  • CHR 8844: Family Systems Theory
  • CHR 8845: Family Interventions
  • CHR 8661: Preventative Methods in Couples Counseling
  • CHR 8862: Couples Counseling

Substance Abuse Therapy Option

Students seeking additional coursework in Drug & Alcohol:

  • CHR 8873: Substance Abuse Counseling
  • CHR 8874: Prevention Theory and Practice
  • CHR 8875: Advanced Assessment and Treatment of Substance Abuse
  • CHR 8876: Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment

Completion of the above courses will assist students in becoming eligible for the Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) credential offered through NBCC.

*It should be noted that students looking to complete 12 post-masters credits are not required to specialize and may take classes offered in both Marriage & Family Therapy and Substance Abuse Counseling.
