2008-2009 Edition
Dear Villanovan,
It is with great pleasure that I present the 19th edition of the Enchiridion,
the handbook for students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The
Enchiridion is meant to be a ready reference for information on the College, its
academic programs, regulations, and policies. I am sure you will find it most
useful.
As a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you are part of a
learning community that draws upon the legacy of St. Augustine, whose own
pursuit of knowledge was characterized by open, intelligent, and respectful
interaction of various points of view. The College offers its programs in the
liberal arts and sciences in the hope that they will foster an awareness of
moral, religious, and humanitarian values, all of which are necessary for the
total growth of the individual.
As St. Augustine reminds us:
"Let knowledge be used as a kind of scaffolding to help build the edifice of love and understanding, which shall endure forever even after knowledge itself shall be destroyed."
— Epist. 55,22,39
Please know that the faculty, staff, and administration of the College, with
your cooperation, are eager to help you attain these goals.
Rev. Kail C. Ellis, O.S.A., Ph.D.
Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
