Considering a career choice is often part of the decision process in
selecting an academic institution for one's college experience. Villanova, in
affiliation with Thomas Jefferson University's College of Health Professions,
offers students considering a career in Biotechnology/Molecular Science, Cytotechnology/Cell
Science, or Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science the opportunity to
earn a degree from both institutions and thus add to their credentials in these
fields.
Programs
- The first is a four-year program where a student would spend two years at
Villanova earning an Associate's Degree then transfer to Jefferson's College of
Health Professions for another two years to earn the Bachelors Degree in the
appropriate field.
- The second option to consider is a five-year program in which
the first three years would be spent at Villanova completing most of the credits
for the Bachelors Degree in Biology; credits taken at Jefferson will be used to
complete the Villanova degree requirements; the last two years will be completed
at Jefferson.
- An option for a Masters Degree at Jefferson may be available for
some programs.
Requirements
- Have an SAT I score of 1320 or better on the Critical Reading and Math
components (a specific score on the Writing component will not be used at
this time)
- or ACT score of 30 and must include the writing portion
- rank in the top 10% of their high school class where class rank is
reported
- and have a GPA 3.7 (unweighted) on a 4.0 scale
- Students are expected to maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA during their time
at Villanova. Failure to do so may result in release from the program.
Application
and Admission Requirements
- the candidate’s Villanova
Preliminary Application for Undergraduate Admission (October 15)
- a completed Common
Application (November 1)
- application fee
- official high school transcript
- all SAT or ACT
scores sent directly from the College Board and/or ACT
- Common Application
School Report and recommendation
- Villanova essay
Application forms and
deadline information for completing these applications can be found on the
Undergraduate Student Application web page. In
completing #17 on the Villanova admission application, the applicant should
indicate the Health Affiliation Program (BT on the paper application and Health
Affiliation Bioscience Technologies on the online application) and the Villanova major of choice, which the
applicant will pursue at Villanova University. The Villanova major will serve as
the applicant's major if accepted into the Health Affiliation Science Program or
reviewed for admission to Villanova.
Applicants will be notified approximately January 15 if they have advanced to
the second stage of the process. If so, they will be contacted by Villanova's
Health Professions Advisor to arrange for an interview. Students who are
not selected for the second stage are notified by Villanova approximately
January 15 and will be evaluated through the regular admission process for the
major listed on their application.
Major
Students who consider the five-year option have a choice of
major at Villanova. Although any major could be selected, completion of the
requirements for Jefferson will be more easily accomplished within the Biology
major or the Comprehensive Science major in the College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences. Contact the Health Professions Advisor if you have any questions.
Students will complete the Core requirements for the College of Liberal Arts
and Sciences and the majority of the science requirements for the major. Credits
from the program at Jefferson will be used to complete the degree requirements.
Students will work closely with the Health Professions Advisor to ensure all
requirements are met.
