Academic Timeline

Freshman Year

  • Make sure you are on the health professions e-mail list.
  • Attend health professions meetings sponsored by the office of Health Related Sciences.
  • Begin to get to know your faculty. You may want to ask them for a letter of evaluation later.
  • Begin taking the appropriate pre-requisite course work in the sciences such as chemistry and biology. If unsure, make an appointment with Dr. Friede for advising.
  • Plan on getting involved in a community service project or volunteering in a health profession setting of interest during the summer.
  • Read, Read, Read….for learning, for fun. This will help your verbal skills for any standardized test.

Sophomore Year

  • Attend health professions meetings sponsored throughout the year by the office of Health Related Sciences.
  • Continue taking appropriate science pre-requisite courses.
  • Continue to get to know your professors and strengthen your relationships with them.
  • Attempt to expose yourself to a health profession field through volunteer or paid experiences. This may be done during the school year or in the summer.
  • Seek out your areas of interest. Explore them in depth.
  • Read, Read, Read….look at what issues are out there in the health professions.

Junior Year

  • Plan on how you are going to prepare to study for the entrance exams (MCAT, DAT, OAT, GRE).
  • Put the above plan into effect. FYI...Dr. Friede offers free MCAT preparation and testing on Saturday’s from January to April.
  • Attend health professions meetings sponsored throughout the year by the office of Health Related Sciences.
  • Make sure you are on the health professions e-mail list.
  • Make an appointment with Dr. Friede by mid-April for an informational interview for the committee letter. Submit a Personal Information Form and Waiver or Non Waiver Form at this time.
  • Meet with faculty from whom you would like to request a  letter of evaluation.  Provide them with the appropriate form.
  • Make plans for a summer experience in health care/community service setting/research.
  • Take spring entrance exam (MCAT testing dates/procedure ) - release scores to Villanova Health Professions Advisor.
  • Complete online application by mid to late summer and request transcripts. Dental applicants should have a transcript (one for each school to which you are applying) sent to Dr. Friede's office in addition to sending one to AADSAS.

Senior Year

  • Submit Authorization and Release Form (medical   dental  optometry ) to the office of Health Related Sciences. This form authorizes us to release your committee package to the schools to which you applied.
  • Finish up supplemental applications.
  • Prepare for interviews.
  • Update the schools with new information.
  • Keep in touch with the Health Sciences Advisor.
