Apart from the intrinsic rewards of learning within an intellectually-challenging and mutually-supporting community of scholars, a number of additional practical benefits accompany a student's Honors experience. Perhaps one of the most important benefits of being a member of the Honors Program is the Honors suite itself.

Highlights of the Honors Program
Honors graduates routinely rank at the top of their class, frequently are elected to prestigious honors societies like Phi Beta Kappa, and are often recipients of the Medallions of Excellence awarded at graduation by each University major.

They are consistently successful in their pursuit of post-graduate plans, including prestigious fellowships, graduate and professional school acceptances, and career opportunities.

Located just off the main lobby of the St. Augustine Center for the Liberal Arts, the office provides a comfortable, informal atmosphere for students and faculty to stop by, have conversation, read the paper or the bulletin board, play community chess (non-competitive) for a minute or two, or just have a cup of tea or coffee before their next class.

The Director, Associate Director and Coordinator of the Program are never too busy for a quick question, a longer conversation or a bit of academic advice. The office serves as a quiet center for many members of the Program as frequently as it serves as a center of their activity.

Students come to know faculty members on an individual basis. Honors faculty encourage continuation of discussion outside of class, meet individually with their students, serve as faculty mentors and as advisors of independent studies and lab research, join in co-curricular activities, and open their homes for informal socials and conversation. Indeed, students generally find that their post-baccalaureate plans can be facilitated precisely because a faculty member has come to know their work and potential in detail.
