The Honors Program has a wide range of activities that are meant to complement your experience in and to help foster the principles of the program.

Co-Curricular Activities

Co-curricular activities provide opportunities for pursuing the more comprehensive interests that members bring with them to the Program. In addition to the broad range of service and social initiatives possible within the Villanova community as a whole, the Honors Program sponsors a variety of activities with a view toward the particular interests of its participants.

The Program provides funding for a number of guest speakers each year, as the exclusive sponsor of some events and as co-sponsor of others. The practice of expanding the process of learning beyond the classroom consistently has been an invaluable means of keeping timely and substantive issues close to the experience of both students and faculty.

Honors Friday Colloquium

The Honors Friday Colloquium is a forum in which students and faculty bring to the community ideas, readings, performances — anything in which they have a particular interest. An ideal way to make the transition from the work-a-day week to the more leisure-inspired weekend, the colloquia have come to include student art exhibits, international culture and cuisine programs, Fall and Spring Recitals (voice, instrument and performance art selections by students and faculty in the Program), as well as the presentation of social commentary and opportunities for service initiatives within the broader civil society.

Support of Cultural Life

A central element of Honors is its support of the cultural life of the community. The Program subsidizes the purchase of tickets for students and faculty to attend the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Villanova University Vasey Theatre and area community theatres. Each year the Program sponsors field trips to attend opera or theatre in New York, museums in Washington, galleries in Philadelphia or other areas of general interest, including whitewater rafting trips on the Lehigh River.

The purpose of all of these activities, as well as the annual Honors Fall Opening Reception, Honors Christmas Party and Honors Spring Picnic, is to expand the possibilities for learning, enjoyment and friendship. They are activities designed for persons who have a particular interest in enhancing their undergraduate experience within a small academic community.
