Our Strategic Plan, adopted in the Spring of 1997, encompasses ten main principles:
- Provide a dynamic curriculum of study that is uncompromisingly rigorous,
innovative, and responsive to the mission of the University and of the College
of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
- Establish the formal structures necessary to ensure that Honors education at
Villanova emphasizes the development of active and independent learning skills
in each of the students' four year undergraduate experience.
- Expand the role of the Honors Program in its service throughout the
University in developing experimental models, implementing pilot programs, and
establishing effective structures to provide appropriate support for the
Strategic Plans of the University and its constituent colleges, departments, and
offices.
- Encourage and support colleagues in the development of models for
interdisciplinary teaching across academic departments and colleges, emphasizing
cross-cultural, service learning, and experiential learning
courses.
- Develop co-curricular programs that reinforce the shared interests of members
of the Honors community in accordance with the fundamental principles of mutual
respect, intellectual integrity, and cultural growth.
- Become as inclusive of outstanding students and faculty as is compatible with
maintaining the highest standards of excellence essential to the Program, and
with the constraints of classroom facilities and available support staff.
- Increase the informational and funding resources necessary for student,
faculty, and curriculum development.
- Develop effective mentoring programs for all Honors students, Presidential
Scholars, and potential candidates for the national scholarship competitions.
- Pursue cooperative initiatives with other Honors programs and institutions in
the greater Philadelphia area to enhance student and faculty access to
educational resources.
- Create and sustain a network of Honors Program
alumni to provide
additional resources for current students in matters of internships,
fellowships, graduate and professional schools, and career possibilities.
