Villanova's graduate programs in Human Resource Development provide students
with the current thinking and practice in all areas of human resources. All
courses are offered in the evenings or on weekends in order to allow working professionals
to continue their career as they pursue their studies. The Master of Science
program covers topics that include: human resource planning, organizational change,
compensation, international human resources, project management for human resource
professionals and organizational training. The Pre-Master's Certificate allows
students with a bachelor's degree to continue their education while exploring their
interest in seeking a master's degree in Human Resource Development. The
Post-Master's
Certificate allows master's degree recipients to stay updated on current trends
in the field.
“The VU HRD program was a significant ‘game changer’ for
me with an ideal blend of theory and real time business case studies. The
exposure to ‘practicing business leaders as faculty’ was powerful and helped me
prepare well for ‘real work place challenges’. The breadth of courses covered in
the program has enabled me to bridge the link between business strategy, leading
change, and operations—with analytical depth and emphasis on people at the core!
The entire experience is memorable and has helped me establish and build
relationships that continue to help me grow—both personally and professionally.
With increasing global competitiveness, building and evolving organizational
capability will offer the edge we require to grow sustainably and this program
provides an ideal learning platform for aspiring leaders to significantly
enhance their leadership skills.”

Master of Science
The Master of Science in Human Resource Development degree is a generalist program
that provides students with a comprehensive overview of the field. The courses
in this program provide a practical environment to provide students with opportunities
to perform many of the activities that practitioners in the field encounter on a
regular basis. Most courses are taught by leading consultants and practitioners
who bring current trends and thinking to the classroom. The program offers
flexible scheduling to meet the needs of busy professionals.
Certificates
For professionals who want to enhance their strategic vision, Villanova offers
both a Pre-Master's and a Post-Master's
Certificate. These credentials allow
students to combine special Weekend Seminars and traditional courses to meet their
professional goals. These new options are one more way Villanova is pioneering
HR education.
Five-Year B.A./M.S. Programs
The Villanova Human Resource Development Program now offers two five-year
bachelor's/master's programs. The first B.A./M.S. program combines a B.A.
in Psychology with an M.S. in Human Resource Development. The second B.A./M.S.
program combines a B.A. in BIS (Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies) General Studies or
Leadership Studies with an M.S. in Human Resource Development. In both
programs, students take graduate and well as undergraduate courses during the· ir
senior year. Several of the graduate courses count for both graduate and
undergraduate credit, allowing the master’s degree to be obtained in only one
additional year.
Interested undergraduate students should contact the
Human Resource Development Program for further information.
Program Points of Excellence
The program’s most innovative characteristic is the involvement of those who
have graduated over the past two decades and continue to serve the program in advisory
roles and as visiting guest speakers in classes. Alumni are active in recruiting
our students for internships and full-time opportunities following graduation. Three
area SHRM chapters have supported the program in various ways including scholarship
funding.
