B.A. in Psychology and M.S. in HRD

This program specifically prepares students to enter the work force as human resource professionals by providing a comprehensive background in the basic human resource competencies with emphasis on global, strategic, and developmental issues. 

B.A. Program Requirements

Applicants to the program should have the following:

  • Villanova psychology major with junior status
  • a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • a GPA in the psychology major of at least 3.2
  • completed or be enrolled in at least 6 psychology courses which must include:
    • PSY 4000- Intro Statistics
    • PSY 4050- Research Methods in Psy
    • PSY 2700- Industrial/Organizational Psy or PSY 2800- Human Factors
    • PSY 4200- Physiological Psychology or
      PSY 4500- Cognitive Psychology

Students who are admitted into the B.A./M.S. track will be allowed to enroll in three graduate HRD courses in their senior year (including the summer preceding).  The student may choose among five graduate courses:

  • HRD 8006- HR Metrics & Research Methods (Required)
  • PSY 8425- Organizational Psychology (Elective)
  • PSY 8475- Organizational Training (Required)
  • HRD 8319- Introduction to HR (Required)
  • PSY 8875- Psychology of Organizational Change (Required)

Three of these courses will count toward both the B.A. in Psychology and the M.S. in HRD.  No more than three graduate courses may be treated in this fashion. 

For students in the B.A./M.S. track, there is no alteration in requirements for the undergraduate major in Psychology.  The same number of credits and the same required classes are still in place.

To apply to the B.A./M.S. program, submit the following to the HRD Program:

  • The first three pages of the graduate application completed.
  • Official transcripts documenting your courses.
  • A personal statement (2 pages max) describing your career goals and reasons for pursuing a master's degree.
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty assessing your potential for success in the B.A./M.S. program. Letter forms may be obtained from the application to graduate studies.
  • The GRE is waived for the B.A./M.S. program, but students' SAT scores will be assessed by the admissions committee.

Please note: Acceptance into the BA/MA track is not automatic and is limited to a maximum of five students each year.

M.S. Program Requirements

Students in the B.A./M.S. track must complete a written comprehensive examination.  This is usually scheduled after coursework is completed.  Following existing practice, the professional PHR exam will be accepted in lieu of the Villanova comprehensive exam.
