Internships

The Department of Humanities and Villanova University are affiliated with The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars in Washington DC. Eligible students can attend the Washington Center's semester or summer term program, complete a fulltime internship tailored to their individual interests, take an academic course of their choice, and receive academic credit for third work. Excellent placements are available in the government, nonprofit organizations and corporations - as well as numerous international organizations. Many students are able to attend The Washington Center at a cost comparable to what they'd spend on campus for the same period.
For more information, visit The Washington Center website or see your Washington Center liaison here on campus, Dr. John O'Leary, 610-519-4454.
Requirements for Humanities Internships
For departmental credit, Humanities majors must first satisfy all requirements set by the Internship Office.
In addition, the students must submit a 10-15 page essay to the Chair of the Humanities Department, with a copy to the Internship Office. The essays should be typed and double spaced, and should include the following:
- An evaluation of the internship experience, including the particulars of assignments given to the student, assistance and direction offered to the student by those in charge, and the problems encountered by the student in fulfilling the requirements.
- An appraisal of the student's preparation as a Humanities major to participate in such an internship.
- Comments regarding the way the internship enhanced the student's development, and relating this development to his or her course of studies in the major.
- Overall evaluation of the internship as it serves to prepare the student for further career choices.
- Additional critical comments from the student concerning their experience.
Students who do not meet these requirements in their essay will be asked to rewrite it.
