Letter from the Dean

On behalf of the administration, faculty, and staff of the College, I'd like to wish you and your families a very happy new year. I hope you enjoyed the holidays.

The semester break provides an ideal time for all of us in the College to reflect on our work to date and devise ways to improve our work processes and systems. It is important to ask ourselves: What am I doing well, and what could I be doing better?

Classes resume on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and on Saturday, Feb. 3, the Office of University Admission will host Early Action Candidates’ Day, a day when the best and the brightest high school seniors who have been accepted to Villanova come to campus to learn if the University is right for them.

Departmental “open houses” will be held in the afternoon to help prospective students gain further insight into the College’s unique program offerings. I encourage all academic departments in the College to use this time wisely; it is an opportunity to show students and their families what makes the College so special. Feel free to invite your current majors to the open house. Often high school seniors feel more comfortable asking questions of their peers, and what better way to showcase the strength of your department then by having your own exceptional students discuss what it’s like being a student in the College.

Lastly, as we look to the new semester with renewed energy and focus, I’d like to encourage you to make this e-newsletter truly “yours” by sending your news items, event announcements, and other pertinent information for publication to Kate Szumanski for inclusion in our e-newsletter. By doing so, you will reach the broadest audience possible, both within the College and external to it.

Thank you for remaining connected to the College and for your continued interest in receiving our monthly news updates. We look forward to communicating with you in the new year.

Sincerely,

Rev. Kail C. Ellis, O.S.A., Ph.D.
Dean of the College

Do you have any creative ideas? Here are some possible contenders for e-newsletter names: CLASnotes; NOVUS (Latin for “news”); Tolle, lege (Take it up and read); and The Voice.

The purpose of the College’s e-newsletter is to share information about the College to a wide audience, including, College faculty, staff, students, their parents, prospective students and their parents, alumni, and anyone else interested in keeping up to date on all College news, activities, and events.

Please click here to log in your vote for a name the e-newsletter. We’ll tally up the results and hope to announce a name some time soon.
