The MLRC is equipped with some phenomenal facilities to assist you in your learning:

Computer Lab

The MLRC computer lab is equipped with fourteen computers. These computers are installed with various types of mathematical software packages and educational computer programs.

Tutoring Lab

The MLRC tutoring lab comfortably seats 50 people.  There are tables where students can work together in groups and desks and study stations for individual work. The tutoring lab also has white boards and a photocopy machine for student use.

During the fall and spring semesters, tutors are available Monday through Thursday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. During the summer session tutors are available in the afternoons from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Tutors will help students in their freshmen and sophomore level mathematics courses.  It is not necessary to make an appointment to obtain tutorial help, but this option is available for the afternoon sessions.

Video Workstations

The MLRC is equipped with three TV/VCR workstations (with headphones) and a video library with tapes containing lectures for the following subjects.

  • Algebra (30-lecture series)
  • Geometry (30-lecture series)
  • Probability (10-lecture series)
  • Trigonometry (20-lecture series)
  • Discrete Math & Math Concepts (accompanies "Mathematics All Around" by Thomas L. Pirnot)

Software

Mathematical Software Packages:

  • Maple
  • Excel 2000
  • Minitab
  • SAS

Educational Computer Programs

  • Summit (a multimedia algebra tutorial)
  • Trig Explorer (a multimedia trigonometry tutorial)
  • InterAct Math (an algebra and trig tutorial)
  • An Electronic Companion to Precalculus (an algebra and trig tutorial)
  • Calculus Connections (a multimedia single-variable calculus tutorial)
  • ActivStats (a statistics tutorial)

Summit: An Interactive Algebra Journey

An interactive, multimedia study of Introductory Algebra topics, including Real Numbers, Solving Equations and Inequalities, Polynomials and Exponents, Factoring, Rational Expressions, Graphing Linear Equations, Linear Systems, Roots and Radicals & Quadratic Equations. This program is presented on CD-ROM.

InterAct Math

Tutorial software which generates multiple choice problems in College Algebra & Trigonometry, based on material presented from a particular textbook.  The software keeps track of correct and incorrect answers, gives guided hints when requested and allows the student to attempt similar problems.

The Trig Explorer

An interactive, multimedia CD-ROM study of trigonometry fundamentals, including degrees, radians, angles, triangles, trig functions, graphs of trig functions, inverse trig functions.

An Electronic Companion to Precalculus

A multimedia study guide featuring interactive review and self-testing for topics including Linear, Quadratic, Polynomial, Rational, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Systems of Equations, Sequences and Series, Matrices, Trigonometric Fuinctions, and Analytical Trigonometry.

Calculus Connections: A Multimedia Adventure (Volumes 1 & 2)

Volumes 1 & 2 are interactive, multimedia CD-ROM tours of Calculus topics.   Volume 1 tours topics including Functions, Limits, Rates of Change, Differentiation, Transcendental and Inverse Functions, Optimization, Area, Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and the Mean-Value Theorem.  Volume 2 covers topics including Integration, Rectilinear Motion, Simpson's Rule, Sequences and Series, Differential Equations, Spherical and Polar Coordinates, Parametric Equations and Mathematical Modeling.

ActivStats

A complet multimedia introductory statistics course on CD-ROM, which integrates videos from "Against All Odds" (published by COMAP), simulation, animation, narration, text and interactive experiments.

Math Coach: Probability & Statistics

A DOS-based on-screen tutorial for probability & statistics, making use of warm-up tests, lesson concepts to reveiw basic skills, practice tests and a unit exam.   Students may use the on-line glossary, bookmarks and summary printouts.

Interactive Math Dictionary

An interactive database of mathematical topics that combines the attributes of a dictionary with functionality of a CD-ROM.  Each topic has its own guide for quick and easy access tot he database.  The 4500 entries include mathematical examples that can be explored with sample data or by inputting your own.  Computation, plotting, and graphing are powered by the Maple computer algebra system.
