The Graduate Program in Hispanic Studies offers Certificates of Advanced Study at the pre-Master's and post-Master's level.
The program emphasizes the contextualization of literary production and changing
relations between the literatures and cultures of Spain and Latin America. The
aim of the program is to prepare students to become first-rate scholars and
teachers. To this end, the faculty places emphasis on providing students with a
solid knowledge of literature and critical theory without neglecting a
professional pedagogical training.
Degree Requirements for the Graduate Certificate of Advanced Study
Eighteen (18) semester graduate credit hours of study are required of candidates who wish to obtain a pre-Master's certificate. Upon successful completion of course work with a minimum GPA of 3.0 a pre-Master's Certificate will be awarded. Those who already hold an M. A. degree in Spanish, may pursue specialized studies toward a post-Master's certificate. Upon completion of 15 credits in the M.A. program and with a minimum GPA of 3.0 the student will be awarded a post-Master’s certificate.
