First Year Orientation
The orientation includes an overview of the Philosophy department, expectations
for the first year, arrangements (insurance, housing library; wildcard, etc.),
technology (e-mail, databases, voice mail). The orientation may include a
special session (organized by the Graduate Student Union) with incoming graduate
students and more senior graduate students.
Advisors
The Director of Graduate Studies is the principle advisor for all
graduate students. This is especially the case for matters of procedure and
protocol. However, students should develop relations with graduate faculty
(including the Graduate Director) whose interests they share and who can advise
them on matters relevant to the profession and professional development.
Course Selection
Registration for courses will be
done on-line. Short descriptions of courses will be available before the
registration period closes. Students should consult with faculty about the
advisability of their course selections relative to their preparations for exams
and the development of their professional and philosophical interests.
