To be considered for admission, the Department expects applicants to have
completed at least 18 credits in Philosophy, to have earned an overall grade
point average of 3.5 or better, and to have combined verbal and analytic GRE
test scores of 1280 or better on the tests administered before October 1, 2002.
The new test format inserts an analytic writing section graded on a 6 point
scale. To be competitive, students should expect to earn a verbal test score of
650 or better and an analytic writing score of 5 or better.
Failure to meet any of these quantitative criteria can be offset if, in the
judgment of the Admissions Committee, there are interpretive factors warranting
it. The Committee considers all aspects of the application.
