Each year a limited number of seats in the doctoral program will become available to incoming students. These students will be admitted to the Ph.D. program and will be maintained in the program on the condition that they maintain a grade point average of 3.5 and meet all program requirements (such as the language requirements, the second year comprehensive examinations, the preliminary examinations, etc.)

Highly qualified students will be supported for a maximum of four years with full time awards (full stipend and tuition remission), contingent upon maintaining good standing in the program. Supported students will ordinarily serve as Graduate Assistants in their first two years, and as Teaching Assistants in their third and fourth years. Students with transferable graduate credits will be evaluated on an individual basis both as to the length and nature of their support. The stipend for Graduate Assistants for AY 2008-09 is approximately $14,670, for Teaching Assistants it is approximately $16,265.
