Graduates' Comments

This is a list of comments regarding the Physics program which were provided on a survey of department alumni:

"Villanova provided me with a great education that has led me to positions at several companies (including DuPont for the past 20 years) and I have had an opportunity to contribute over a wide range of technologies including electronic components (thin film capacitors), photovoltaic solar cells, conductive polymers, electrochromic displays, optical storage, holographic materials and components, organic light emitting displays and liquid crystal display components."

"My undergraduate Physics degree provide a concrete foundation which I rely heavily upon in my current position...I am glad I pursue a B.S. in physics at Villanova."

"The program at the Villanova Physics Department is very good. Advanced degrees, particularly M.S. are desirable, at least for industry related jobs."

"A degree in Physics doesn't lock you into a Physics or even a science career. My advice is to be open to all opportunities."

"Physics education is a good background for continued learning throughout your career."

"While I am not employed in a 'physics' profession, my undergraduate studies prepared me to be an effective 'problem solver'"

"I found that having a degree from Villanova was a 'plus' factor in gaining acceptance."

"Physics is great preparation for an advanced business degree."

"Outstanding faculty in the Physics and Astrophysics Departments."

"Quantitative preparation is a big plus, and combination of science with (current) health care business is very helpful."

"VU education was an excellent preparation for graduate studies at Cal Tech."

"Education at Villanova was excellent."

"Physics is great preparation for many different careers. Villanova's physics program is very solid - you will be as well-prepared as any graduate from any other school. Set a goal; work hard; have fun; be successful and happy."

"My broad education in physics gave me background for electrical, mechanical, and chemical problems encountered in operating generating stations."

"Relatively small classes at Villanova allowed teacher-student interaction"

"Although I did not pursue physics as a career, I consider the education in it invaluable. The self assurance that if you can handle physics, you can handle anything has been a major asset in my career."

"Education at Villanova is generally very good as compared to other places I've seen. A graduate degree in physics will continue to be advantageous, even if, like myself, your career moves in unexpected directions."

"Be prepared to go on to graduate school"

"For those physics majors who do not foresee a career in physics - don't worry, the degree opens up a lot of doors."

"I was pleasantly surprised at the attention I received from potential advisors here at UCSB because of my physics background. Professors with a variety of research interests in Mechanical Engineering were looking to talk with me. I am very happy I chose physics as an undergraduate and I am very glad that I chose Villanova."

"Good undergraduate basics prepared me well for Ph.D. work."

"Villanova experience was a great preparation for graduate school and career."

"I went to Villanova on a NROTC scholarship, and then to medical school after the Navy. Science and Philosophy are a good background for anything."

"Villanova gave me a good B.S. Physics preparation and liberal arts training."

"Because of interest and opportunity, my career gravitated from physics to software engineering. My physics education at Villanova prepared me well for the scientific/engineering applications domains underlying my computer work."
