What occurs at the political science reception following commencement ceremonies?
The Department Chair will personally hand you your diploma at the Political Science reception following the Commencement Ceremony. No speeches, just a simple handshake and congratulations. This will take some time because we usually have over 100 students graduating and you are welcome to have parents, family and/or friends take pictures of you receiving your diploma. In addition, PSC faculty members enjoy talking with you and your family during the reception. Feedback from our graduates indicates they like this simple, informal approach and so I hope you will find it appropriate as well. If you have more than one major, your diploma will be usually in the department you declared as your first major. If PSC is your second (or third major) we welcome you to visit our reception too so we can congratulate you on your success. If you are an Honors graduate and a political science graduate, then you will receive two diplomas…one from Honors and one from political science.

How am I assigned a PSC advisor?
When you submit a completed form to declare PSC as your major, you will be assigned a PSC advisor. You may visit with any of our faculty and develop a mentoring experience with any of them, but for the purposes of registration we ask that you not change advisors. We approve changes only in exceptional cases. Why? We assign faculty about the same number of students to advise each year. PSC faculty share equally the task of meeting with PSC majors to review their planned course selections during the week or two before registration begins.

May I have permission to enroll in a course closed because of full-enrollment?
Once a course enrollment is closed, the Department Chair will only allow another student to enroll as a last resort. Other options besides enrolling in the course must not be available and usually the student must be senior.

How to obtain my Compliance Report or CAPP that documents progress towards my degree?
Students are expected to obtain their CAPP online via NOVASIS, especially before seeing their advisor for registration purposes. Click here to see instructions.
