Applicants should have at least a 3.0 GPA. For the M.A. in Political Science, students should have at least 18 credits in Political Science.


All applicants are required to submit to the:

 Office of Graduate Studies:
  • The completed application and fees
  • Scores from their Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (Note: If you have five years working experience involving relevant administrative experience or already have earned a master's or doctoral degree, you may ask the MPA Director to waive the GRE requirement.
  • )
  • Two official undergraduate transcripts
 Department of Political Science:
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A two-page statement explaining career objectives
  • Any additional information they would like to convey

Application materials must be received by March 1 for consideration to receive an assistantship or scholarship, or August 1 without financial considerations:

Applications are considered on a rolling basis, pending availability in the program. Admissions decisions are decided by the overall strength of the applicants folder and by current enrollment needs. In keeping with the policy of Villanova University, the Political Science department encourages ethnic, gender, and national diversity among its students.

The department makes available a limited number of graduate assistantships which provide a stipend and tuition waiver, and tuition scholarships which provide a tuition waiver. Financial aid awards are competitive and based on the applicants previous record, and promise of future performance. Candidates will be eligible to receive assistance for up to two consecutive years.  In addition to other financial assistance that is available, please also consider this graduate assistantship in women's studies.

There are also a number of on-campus employment opportunities available, listed with Human Resources or the Office of Financial Assistance.

Students enrolled in other Villanova graduate programs who have undergraduate GPAs below 3.0 may take no more than two courses in the MPA program without applying for acceptance into the graduate certificate program in public administration. Students enrolled in the School Leadership programs are exempted from the rule when enrolling in MPA courses which are part of their program.
 

Complete Application

In order to insure a timely review, a complete application must be submitted. A complete application includes:

  1. Application for admission online or paper applicationPDF icon
  2. Program specific application requirements must be completed as defined by each graduate program.
  3. Non-refundable application fee of $50.* (payable to Villanova University)
  4. Official transcripts (two copies) of all previous college work (both undergraduate and graduate) sent directly to the Graduate Studies Office, by the Registrar of the Colleges or Universities involved.
  5. Letters of recommendation (3) forwarded directly to the Director of the program to which you are applying.
  6. GRE scores
  7. TOEFL scores for international students
  8. Financial Certification for international students needing an F1 Visa.

*fee waived for students with a Villanova degree
