What makes studying Theology at Villanova
unique?
We offer the unique opportunity to ask
fundamental questions about Theology from within the
Augustinian tradition of
contextualizing faith and reason meaningfully within contemporary culture. Because our tradition
values the
role of learning in its relationship to the discovery of God, while emphasizing
the meaning and values of religion and religious traditions in an ecumenical
context, we have developed
academic programs that critically reflect upon the life of faith.
In other
words, we understand theology as “faith seeking understanding” that empowers our
students to value the sacredness of
all creation, embrace the moral and intellectual qualities of learning, pursue
academic and moral excellence, be committed to the gospel values of service,
stewardship for the common good, and the “preferential option for the poor”,
become wise critics of the society in which they live, and sustain a social
consciousness that transcends economic barriers and questions of race, gender,
and creed (see the
mission of
the College).
