The admission to our 5-year BA/MA program proceeds in two steps.
The First Step
The first step is informal.
Inform your academic advisor about your interest in the 5-year program
BEFORE you enroll in any undergraduate elective course.
Your advisor will plan with you three graduate courses that replace three
undergraduate elective courses and develop the course distribution of the
remaining nine graduate course.
For example, you may take a fourth graduate course in your Senior year or
in the summer that precedes it. This course does not replace an undergraduate
elective course but counts toward your Master’s degree.
The Second Step
The application includes
- a copy of your unofficial undergraduate transcript;
- a two-page letter describing your reasons for seeking admission into
the program; and
- two letters of recommendation written by Villanova University Department of
Theology and Religious Studies faculty.
The second step is the formal application to the MA program during your last
Senior semester.
At this point, we require
the completion (or nearly completion) of three graduate courses with a grade
of "B" or better in each course;
a 3.3 cumulative GPA in your major and a 3.3 cumulative undergraduate GPA;
and
your application for the MA program, which you submit to the Graduate
Committee of the Theology Department.
At the end of your Senior year, please request that an
original transcript be sent to us by the Registrar.
Deadlines
If your final semester of undergraduate studies is in the fall, your application deadline is
at the beginning of the fall semester; if in the spring, at the beginning of the
spring semester.
