From Inquiry to Enrollment
Step 1: Review our program information
Candidates interested in our
Campus Ministry
Graduate Internship Program,
please consult this page.
Look around our web-site to find out as much as possible about us and our
program. It is important to us that you consider us a good fit for your academic
journey. Of course, we heartily invite you to contact us, in particular our
Program Director, for more information, or visit us
in person.
Step 2: Review your academic qualification
Candidates applying for admission to our Certificate program meet the
same requirements as for admission to the MA program in Theology, with a few
exceptions. We do not require letters of recommendation or GRE scores. However,
all applicants must have a personal interview with the
Coordinator
of the Campus Ministry Graduate Internship Program (CMI).
Non-Discrimination Policy
We admit students wholly on the basis of individual merit. The
University does not discriminate against any student or applicant
seeking admission on the basis of his or her race, color, national or
ethnic origin, religion, or sex.
Post-Master's Certificate
For admission to our
post-master's Certificate we require
that you already have completed a graduate degree in Theology at Villanova
University or any other accredited college or university, with a graduate GPA of
3.0 or higher.
Applicants holding graduate degrees in related fields may also be admitted,
subject to the approval of our
Program Director.
However, such candidates must demonstrate evidence of 5 years working experience in
the fields of Theology or Religion (e.g., ministry, teaching,
administration, education).
Pre-Master's Certificate
For admission to our
pre-master's Certificate
we require that you hold a
Bachelor’s degree in Education, the Humanities, the Social Sciences, or the
Sciences from an accredited college or university with an undergraduate GPA of
3.0 or higher. In addition, you must demonstrate
- evidence of previous undergraduate or
graduate course work in Theology or Religion (18 credit hours)
or
- evidence of 5 years working experience in
the fields of Theology or Religion (e.g., ministry, teaching,
administration, education).
If you do not meet these requirements (that is, course work in Theology or
Religion or evidence of working experience), you may be accepted into the
Certificate program subject to the approval of the
Program Director. However, you must earn
no less than a “B” grade in each of the first 3 courses before continuing with
the program.
Step 3: Contact Us
In our department, the Graduate Program Director guides all applicants
through the program admission process. We recommend that you contact the Director with any questions about our program.
Because the Certificate program is jointly administered by our department and
Villanova's Campus Ministry Graduate Internship Program, we encourage you
to also contact the
CMI Coordinator
to inquire about the Certificate and discuss your
situation, qualifications, and goals.
Step 4: Fill out the application form
You may apply for admission to our program
online (preferred method) or request a paper
application.
This link leads you to either application.
Step 5: Mail your application material
Application
Deadline
We have a rolling admission's process and accept complete applications until
all positions are filled or
March 1, whichever comes first, for the following fall semester. However, we consider late
applications on a space-available basis.
Note: Applicants interested in the Villanova Campus Ministry
Graduate Internship Program,
please consult this page for
other deadlines.
To the Graduate Program
Director, please submit (for
contact information, click here)
- a 500-700 word statement of your objectives in seeking
enrollment in the program
(please submit separately or complete on the online application form).
- evidence of 5 years working experience in
the fields of Theology or Religion (e.g., ministry, teaching,
administration, education), if applicable.
To the Office of Graduate Studies,
please submit (you will find the address
here)
- completed
application;
- non-refundable application fee of $50
payable to Villanova University (fee is waived for students with a Villanova
degree); and
- official transcripts of all previous
college work (undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate) sent directly to
the Graduate Studies Office, by the Registrar of the Colleges or
Universities involved.
Step 6: What happens next?
Upon receiving all your application material, our Graduate Program
Committee submits a recommendation concerning acceptance to the
CMI Coordinator.
The Coordinator will review your material and schedule an interview with you.
After consultation with our Program Committee, the
Program Director submits a
recommendation concerning acceptance to the Office of Graduate Studies. The office will inform you in writing
about the outcome of the application.
We anticipate having many interested and qualified applicants for our
Certificate program. To ensure the high quality of the program, we admit a limited number of
applicants (three or four) for the fall semester only. In the case that we are unable to accommodate all
applicants, we will create a waitlist. We will notify you of our acceptance
decision by the end of the fourth week following the posted application deadline.
Step 7: Enroll in your classes
As soon as the Office of Graduate Studies admits you to our program you are free to enroll in our
courses.
