We have information about
admission requirements and application process on
this page.
For graduation, our students complete 36 credit hours (or 12
courses) of
academic course work. It includes
6 credits in
Biblical Literature;
6 credits in Systematic Theology (3 of which are
fulfilled by taking the
required Foundation course)
6 credits in Historical Theology (3 of which are fulfilled by taking the
required Foundation course)
6 credits
in Christian
Ethics, and
12 credits in electives.
You are also required to attend a
Research Proseminar in the fall
semester of their first year of studies, pass a
Comprehensive Examination, and a
Language Examination that
demonstrates reading comprehension in a foreign language.
The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Villanova
University requires that graduate students complete all of their degree requirements within
6 years and maintain a GPA of 3.00 (or higher).
Transfer of Credits
At the time of program application you may request the transfer of up to 6
credits from another institution. Only a course taken at the graduate level can
be transferred into one of our graduate programs from another institution. A
graduate course used to complete an individual's undergraduate degree at another
institution cannot be transferred into one of our programs. Transferred credits
fulfill the requirements for elective courses.
If you wish to take a graduate course at another institution while
progressing toward your graduate degree here at Villanova, you must have
written approval from the Graduate Program Director and the Dean before
you take the course. Please keep in mind that the Dean very rarely approves courses at another institution after the
Villanova program has begun.
