The 19th Annual Elizabeth Cady Stanton Conference will take place on the
afternoon of Thursday, April 3, in the Connelly Center. It features a
number of panels where both undergraduate and graduate students present their work, as well as a keynote address
by Susan Aberth of Bard College,
"Frida Kahlo: Mexican Hydra"
(4:30, Connelly Center Cinema).
The 2009 Conference
In 2009, the keynote address at the Conference will be given by
Linda Greenhouse, the Supreme Court reporter for the New York
Times.
Presenting papers at the Conference
The annual Elizabeth Cady Stanton Conference
is an exciting opportunity to showcase your work, discuss your interests
with other students and faculty, and see the broad range of intellectual
disciplines Women’s Studies encompasses. Submit your paper to compete
for a cash award in one of the following three categories:
- papers written by first year
students (minimum of 4 pages of text)
- papers written by undergraduate students (minimum of 5 pages of
text)
- papers written by graduate students (12-30 pages of text)
Submission
Requirements
Eligibility for Submission
To be eligible for submission:
- A paper must engage gender theories; a paper written about women
or a woman is not sufficient.
For example, a paper might use a lens which
distinguishes actions and reactions caused by gender prejudice,
critically discuss the ways that gender functions in some aspect of
society, or analyze a text using other elements from feminist theory.
- Each paper must include outside sources (a bibliography or reference
section).
- All papers must be written during the past calendar year,
from Spring or Fall or written specifically for the competition
itself.
- Essays should be formatted in Word, using 12 pt. Times New Roman
font with 1 inch margins, and page numbers.
- Please include a cover sheet with the following information:
student's name, major and year of graduation; mailing and email
addresses, and phone number; the name of the course and professor
for which the paper was written (if any).
- Marks of identification should not appear anywhere else in the
paper.
- Please submit 4 paper copies to the Women's Studies Secretary
(Madeline Cauterucci) in the Global Studies Office, Old Falvey 204.
The due date is always in late February.
- In addition to the paper copies, email the Word document to
womensstudies@villanova.edu
- With the exception of those written by first year students, all
papers must include outside sources in a bibliography or reference
section.
