The Center for Marketing and Public
Policy Research recently created the International Field Experience Program in
Marketing and Public Policy, a 10-week summer internship. The
program offers a select group of VSB sophomores and juniors the
opportunity to gain practical experience in the exciting field
of marketing and public policy. All VSB majors are eligible for
this unique new program.
How the program works
Over the course of this 10-week, for-credit program, students
will work on multiple assignments, rotating between two
companies—or between divisions within the same company—in the
same geographic area. Assignments may involve marketing planning
and implementation, research, sales, and lobbying, among other
tasks.
Examples of past placements include:
- Legislative and legal assignments for a top lobbying firm
- Rotating assignment involving a community bank and a
diversified financial services firm
- Rotating assignment with an advertising agency and an
international marketing research firm
Topics explored in the program What course of action should businesses take when customers’
immediate wants conflict with their long-term well-being and/or
society’s long-term welfare? Under what circumstances, if any,
is government intervention warranted, and if intervention is
warranted, what action should the government take? Such crucial
issues link marketing strategy and tactics with management,
economics, law, and other disciplines. These are the issues that
students explore through the International Field Experience Program
in Marketing and Public Policy.
