MBA 8121 Accounting and Management Control Systems
This course is designed to provide an understanding of contemporary accounting problems and techniques of management control. Topics include: dynamic budgeting, transfer pricing, profit-center management, cost control in an inflationary environment, cost behavior analysis, and allocation and control of investment resources. Prerequisite: MBA 8110

MBA 8122 Federal Income Tax Concepts
This course provides an introduction to federal income tax with primary emphasis on the tax implications of business transactions. The tax consequences of investments, corporate formations, mergers, acquisitions, distributions, and international operations will be considered, as well as the taxability of deferred compensation packages and other employee benefits. Prerequisite: MBA 8110

MBA 8221 Law and Management Decision Making
This course is designed to provide fundamental knowledge of legal concepts and principles important to business decision-making and to provide a breadth of understanding for business managers in this area.

MBA 8225 Contemporary Business Law Topics*

MBA 8226 Business and Environmental Problems
This course examines domestic, transnational and international problems and their proposed solutions by private enterprise, public controls and the legal regime of environmental regulations. Major themes include principles of sustainable development, risk management, environmental ethics and comparative analysis of methods to allocate environmental costs among government, private enterprise and consumers. Cost benefit analyses and the barriers posed by disparate systems of industrial and under-developed nations are also covered.

Economics Electives

MBA 8321 Macroeconomic Theory and Policy
The study of the macroeconomic structure and operation of the economic system: analysis of the determinants of national income, output, employment, and prices and their effects on business decisions; analysis and evaluation of monetary and fiscal policies.

MBA 8322 Monetary Economics
This course examines the relationship of money and the monetary and banking system to the functioning of the economy as a whole. Topics include monetary theory and the scope of monetary and fiscal policy; the function of money in international transactions and the mechanism of international payments.

MBA 8325 Business Cycles and Forecasting
The theory and measurement of fluctuations in the level of business activity; the development of statistical tools for forecasting purposes; the operation of the firm in a changing economic environment are explored.

MBA 8326 Economics of International Trade and Finance*
The focus of this course is on the international business environment from the perspective of the multinational enterprise. A systematic treatment of the economics of international trade and finance with emphasis on foreign exchange rates, judging in foreign exchange markets; international payments systems; free trade vs. protectionism; U.S. trade policy; and theories of direct foreign investment.

MBA 8327 Managerial Economics
This course examines the integration of concepts and principles from accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, and statistics. Topics include the nature of mathematical models of the firm and their use in managerial decision-making; optimization techniques; demand analysis; production theory; cost analysis; and market structure.

MBA 8329 The Economics of Health Care
Use of economics to analyze the heath care market and health policies. Demand for health care, supply of health care including managed care organizations and rationale for government intervention including Medicare, Medicaid, and price regulation. International comparison and general considerations to guide health policy. Prerequisites: MBA 8103 and MBA 8701

MBA 8330 Contemporary Topics in Economics
Contemporary economics issues and topics related to business and social environment. Some courses offered include Entrepreneurship and Private Equity Transactions* and Environmental Economics. Prerequisite: MBA 8301

MBA 8430 Portfolio Management
This course explores the notion of risk; proxies for risk and return; the quality of diversification, portfolio effects and co-variances; index models; performance evaluation; utility theory; portfolio revision; decision-making under uncertainty. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8431 Fixed Income Markets
This course presents an analysis of structure and operations of domestic and international fixed income markets. Topics include bond pricing and yield models, interest rate theory and practice , evaluation of treasury and mortgage backed securities, an introduction to fixed income derivatives, and bond portfolio management. Computer applications and a term project are required. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8432 Corporate Restructuring
Principles of acquisition strategy and value creation; issues of antitrust; industry/candidate selection and evaluation; accounting, tax, financial and valuation issues; methods to improve business combination success-to-failure ratio are examined. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8433 Equity Markets and Security Analysis
This course presents an analysis of equity markets and an introduction to security analysis. Topics include asset allocation models, passive vs. active management strategies, fundamental analysis and technical analysis. A term project is required. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8435 Financial Statement Analysis
This course provides a framework for business analysis and valuation using financial statement information. It incorporates relevant institutional and academic research results that are useful in applying the concepts. Case analyses are used to develop hands-on experiences. Written and oral case analysis are required. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8436 Introduction to Derivatives
A blend of theory and practice focusing on options and futures pricing models. Structure of products and markets. Development of hedging and speculative strategies. Foreign currency and interest rate strategies. Computer applications and a research paper are required. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8437 Financial Markets and Institutions
An introduction to structure and operation of domestic and international financial markets and institutions. Topics include an analysis of the flow of funds from savers to borrowers, risk-return tradeoff, market efficiency, asset-pricing models, theories of interest rates, and term structure of interest rates. A research paper is generally required. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8438 International Financial Management*
A study of the financial operations of multinational corporations and financial institutions. Topics covered include foreign exchange risk, working capital management, investment analysis, and financing arrangements in the unique context of multinational rather than single country activities. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8439 Contemporary Topics in Finance
An examination of contemporary issues and topics which relate to the development in the field of finance. Topics will vary from semester to semester and will be announced prior to registration. Prerequisite: MBA 8410

MBA 8521 Human Resource Management
This course explores recent developments in the field of personnel/human resources management. Topics include consideration of labor force dynamics, labor markets, and government involvement in personnel activities within organizations and an examination of recruiting, selecting, development, compensation, performance appraisals, discipline, and separation functions. Prerequisite: MBA 8510

MBA 8523 International Study Practicum*
Students will spend approximately three weeks attending classes at a selected international academic institution and visiting businesses in the region. Requirements include a comprehensive research paper. Note: Successful completion of the companion course offered as MBA 8529 is suggested

MBA 8525 Entrepreneurship
The role of the entrepreneur in the development of various stages of a business is examined. The unique problems and opportunities that are encountered by the entrepreneur will be identified and explored. Prerequisite: All Managerial Decision Area requirements

MBA 8527 European Business Management*
This course will provide an introduction to the student on the multi-faceted topic of conducting international business transactions within the European Community. The competitive environment of the EC, strategic planning, research techniques to assess foreign market potential, firm specific strategies to attract the Euro-consumer, European monetary Union, trade policy between the U.S. and EC, and cultivating cross-cultural managerial skills for the new Europe are emphasized. Prerequisite: MBA 8510

MBA 8529 Contemporary Topics in Management
This course examines contemporary issues and topics which impact the formulation and administration of management policy. Courses recently offered under this course number: Negotiations and Relationship Management; Management in Pacific Rim Countries; Project Management; Total Quality Management; and Communication in Business. Prerequisite: MBA 8510

Business Analytics - This course provides an introduction to the field of business analytics, which has been defined as the extensive use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, exploratory and predictive models, and fact-based management to drive decisions and actions. The development and use of data warehouses and data marts to support business analytics is discussed. The use of key performance indicators, dashboards and scorecards for performance management and opportunity assessment is illustrated with a simulation tool. Text and web mining are discussed, and the application of selected data mining techniques to business decision making situations is illustrated. Students actively participate in the delivery of this course through case and project presentations.

MBA 8530 International Business Management*
This course provides an overview of economic and cultural integration, trade problems, and tariff barriers highlight the conflicts and compromises between the executive polices and national objectives of various countries. Emphasis is on the development of marketing strategies and the problems concerning overseas investment and financing. Prerequisite: MBA 8510

MBA 8820 Selected Topics in Health Care and the Administration of Health Care Systems
Identification, analysis, and evaluation of current issues and trends in the administration of health care systems. Topics may include non-profit and profit delivery sectors, reimbursement, marketing, facilities design, human resources, and health policy. Information Technology Electives

MBA 8551 Systems Analysis & Design
This course includes tools and techniques used to document information systems. Classical and structured methodologies for describing data flow, date structure, process flow, file design, input and output designs, and program specifications are apples to documenting systems. Data gathering and reporting, project management, and cost/benefit analysis are surveyed. Visible Analyst Workbench will be the CASE tool used to demonstrate how current technology can support the analysis and design process.

MBA 8552 Database Management
This course is designed to give students an understanding of the theoretic and practical issues related to the management of a database in a business environment. To accomplish this lectures and supplemental articles are combined with extensive use of Microsoft Access to solve cases related to the text material. Specific course objectives involve learning the role of databases and database applications in contemporary organizations, learning data modeling using the entity-relationship and semantic object models, and learning the fundamentals of the relational data model and its implementation to SQL. The use of Visual Basic in a database environment will provide a computer language component. In addition, emphasis will be placed on learning the important characteristics of distributed databases and client/server database technologies.

MBA 8553 Telecommunications Networks
The main focus of the course will be on the use of data communication technologies to support the effective and efficient management of information in an organization. Topics will include; the different competing data telecommunications architectures and protocols, an overview of different network topologies and technologies such as LAN, WAN, intranets, and Value-added networks.

MBA 8554 Applied Decision Support Systems
This course is designed to give students an understanding of various computer based decision analysis and support models in a business environment. Specifically, the courses will consist of the following modules: 1) decision analysis and support; 2) group decision support systems; 3) project management; 4) simulation; 5) re-engineering. Software specific to each module will serve to demonstrate how new technologies support these different aspects of decision analysis and support. Examples of software to be used include: DPL, Lotus Notes, Expert Choice, MS Project, and Extend.

MBA 8555 E-Business
This course will provide students with an awareness and understanding of the relevant issues, advantages and disadvantages, and specific techniques involved in using electronic commerce to assist in the production, coordination, marketing and delivery of goods and services. Students will understand how electronic commerce can support the development, manufacturing, and marketing of goods and services, and will learn the different facets of electronic commerce and how each one can be used to support business practices.

MBA 8556 E-Business and Enterprise Computing
Large corporations are increasingly looking to leverage their significant investments in enterprise-wide applications by using them to support E-Business strategies. This course will examine how enterprise-wide data and applications can be used to provide support for emerging E-Business functions and strategies. As an example of an enterprise-computing platform, students will become familiar with SAP's R/3 software. The course will be divided into five modules: sales & distribution, materials management, financial management, control systems, and human resource management. These modules form the basis for the model of the electronic "cockpit" that is the core of a new e-business. Prerequisite: MBA 8555

MBA 8557 Information Technology and Process Design for E-Business
This course addresses the critical role of information technology in developing E-Business processes within an organization. It will survey an array of web technologies and their functions. Students will learn to apply a combination of technical components to build reliable E-Business infrastructure and applications. The course will also examine organizational and technical issues related to analyzing, designing, and creating E-Business processes. Techniques and tools for process design will be covered. Key business processes such as order fulfillment and employee service will be used as examples to show how traditional business processes can be transformed into E-Business processes. Prerequisite: MBA 8555

MBA 8559 Advanced Topics in MIS
This course is oriented towards understanding the managerial implication of some of the new technologies from the field of MIS. Examples include Expert Systems, Electronic Commerce, Applied Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks. Several software packages will be used extensively in this course.

Health Care Information Systems
The objective of this course is to provide participants with an overview of the range of contemporary concepts and applications in the Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) field. Over the years, information systems have become increasingly important in the management of health services delivery. Hospitals, HMOs, CHNs, government agencies, medical groups, private physicians and nurses are all exploring the potential of information systems to handle the large flow of information.

MBA 8640 Marketing Communications
Procedures for synthesizing advertising, personal selling, sales promotion, and other communications tools into an effective communications mix are examined through concepts, principles and case analyses. Prerequisite: MBA 8610

MBA 8641 Research Methodology in Marketing
Research procedures are analyzed within the framework of marketing management. The principal internal and external procedures used in collecting, processing, analyzing and reporting both quantitative and qualitative data are explored. Prerequisite MBA 8610

MBA 8642 Consumer Behavior
A survey and integration of concepts, theories, and principles of consumer behavior derived from the behavioral sciences. Review of contemporary methods in the analysis and investigation of consumers. An emphasis is placed on using consumer behavior knowledge in developing strategy. Prerequisite: MBA 8610

MBA 8643 Management and Marketing of Services
This course provides an analysis of the differences between marketing of goods and services in order to establish an effective marketing orientation that is tailored to the uniqueness of services; emphasis is placed on the strategic management issues for the marketing of services. Prerequisite: MBA 8610

MBA 8644 Sales Management, Concepts, and Practices
The role of sales management in relation to other marketing and corporate functions with emphasis on the contribution of sales management in strategic company planning is examined. Special emphasis is on the staffing and management of sales personnel, methods of evaluating performance, and differences in product and service management. Prerequisite: MBA 8610

MBA 8645 International Marketing*
Options in entering international markets, development of strategic plans and price determination in the background of international financial management are explored. The course offers specific problems/solutions on consumer and industrial products, market research, advertising, public relations, sales promotion and labor in addition to analyzing political risks and cultural impact on marketing goals. Prerequisite: MBA 8610

MBA 8647 Implementing Marketing Strategy
This course emphasizes the tactical dimensions of a marketing program through in-depth case analysis and presentations. One must be able to identify the appropriate strategy to be followed, develop a logical marketing plan, develop control measures, and make the appropriate implementation adjustment. Prerequisite: Managerial Decision Area courses completed or may be taken concurrently with last core course.

MBA 8648 Interactive Marketing
The development of marketing strategies for E-Businesses is explored. General marketing principles will be extended into the new environment created by enabling technologies of today. This course will not emphasize the information technology aspect of E-Commerce, but that technology is critical to its success and key elements will be covered. Topics will include the important components necessary to structure an effective "E-Commerce Plan" such as nature of competition, developing and maintaining customer relationships, information delivery, ethical issues, fulfillment systems and success measurement, and the necessary IT support structure to enable success.
