VSB students are invited to pursue the following options through the Honors Program:
The Honors Certificate, leading to an Honors Concentration
(through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences).
Major Requirements
For Students in
Class of 2012
36 credit hours
of honors courses are required to receive the business honors major. A minimum of 18 of the 36 credit hours must be business
honors courses, choosing from the following:
At least one honors section of the following core
courses (6 credits each):
At least 6 credit hours of honors sections of the following courses:
ECO 1001 - Microeconomics (3 credits)
ECO 1002 - Macroeconomics (3 credits)
ECO 3108 - Global Political Economy (3 credits)
VSB 2005 - Business Statistics (3 credits)
VSB 2007 - Corporate Responsibility & Regulation (3 credits)
VSB 2010 - Financial Management & Reporting (6 credits)
VSB 2020 - Competitive Effectiveness (6 credits)
VSB 3006 - Principles of Managerial Accounting (3 credits)
VSB 3008 - Operations Management
(3 credits)
Upper level electives within each academic area (3 credits)
For the final six required business honors credit hours, select one of the
following options:
Capstone Project (Honors section of VSB 4002): Students begin working on the
capstone project in a special section of Honors Policy Formulation and
Administration in the fall semester, and complete this project in the
Service Learning Practicum during the spring semester. Student groups
provide consulting and business services to a previously identified
organization, with an emphasis on businesses or not-for-profit organizations
in economically disadvantaged areas.
Individual Research Project: Students complete a six credit
independent study under the guidance of a VSB faculty member (VSB 4002 is also
required).
Honors Concentration
To complete the Honors Concentration, students must complete a total of eight
courses, at least three of which must be designated as upper-level.
