A diverse, relevant curriculum

The innovative VSB curriculum is challenging and rigorous, designed to prepare you for success in the real world of global business. Through a wide range of options for major and minor courses of study—along with study abroad opportunities and technological resources including the internationally-recognized VSB Applied Finance Lab—you’ll be empowered to push yourself and reach your academic potential.

Read to Lead Program
The VSB Read to Lead program is an integral part of the new undergraduate curriculum. Its goal is to connect and inspire all students around a common, highly relevant business theme through the collective reading of one book. During the 2009-10 academic year, it is the Starbucks story. All students receive a copy of Pour Your Heart Into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time, by Starbucks Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz and Dori Jones Yang. The book serves as a foundational thread throughout the year, weaving together concepts from the Business Dynamics course.

The VSB Read to Lead program provides students with a real-world context for learning. Pour Your Heart Into It provides a launching point for integrative student discussions, projects, and analyses of topics. It also provides undergraduates with new opportunities for discussions with high-level corporate leaders.

During the 2008-09 academic year, Katharine Lindemann, Starbucks Senior Vice President, came to campus to speak with VSB students about the book, her perspectives on global leadership and the Starbucks approach to management, marketing, and ethical business practices.

For the 2009-2010 academic year, we are very pleased to recognize the public accounting firm of Ernst & Young as the proud sponsor of the VSB’s Read to Lead program.

Faculty commitment to your success

VSB faculty members are widely recognized for excellence in both teaching and research. Many bring a wealth of practical experience from careers in finance, banking, sales, marketing, management, consulting, and beyond. And over 90 percent hold the highest degree in their respective discipline. With a student-to-faculty ratio of only 16:1, VSB professors are accessible and classes are small. Both core business courses and electives have fewer than 30 students. What’s more, there are no graduate teaching assistants at Villanova. All classes are taught by faculty members. VSB professors are here because they want to teach…and they want to see you succeed.

The Business Honors experience

VSB welcomes highly-motivated students who wish to pursue a well-rounded, in-depth exploration of the business world within an even smaller class size environment through the Business Honors program. In the Business Honors program, students work closely with VSB professors, Clay Center Advisors, and Peer Counselors to enhance their understanding of business and achieve their personal, academic, and career goals.

“After I was recruited, I excelled very quickly within my company. I credit my swift success to Villanova’s excellent reputation and its ability to equip students with the skills and confidence demanded by the business world. As a result of this training, I have a major competitive advantage over my peers."
