Liturgical Life strives to nourish the development of religious faith and practice at Villanova University. Programs offered are comprised of students who serve the Liturgical community as Lectors, Hospitality ministers, Eucharistic ministers, and Pastoral Musicians.

Eucharistic Ministry

Eucharistic Ministers share the Body and Blood of Christ with the assembly.

They prepare the bread, wine, and sacred vessels for the celebration of the Eucharist before the liturgy begins. Eucharistic ministers take part in the celebration of the Eucharistic meal by ministering the Body and Blood of Christ to the gathered assembly. Finally, they assist in cleaning the Eucharistic vessels and linens once Mass in concluded.

Hospitality Ministry

Hospitality Ministers gather and welcome members of the community as they assemble for worship.

The Hospitality Minister is the first person worshipers encounter as they gather for liturgy. They are the welcoming faces of our celebration. In addition to greeting, the hospitality minister assures that the liturgy flows smoothly and prayerfully. They assist the celebrant throughout the Mass and prepare the altar before the Eucharistic prayer.

Ministry of Lectors

Lectors proclaim God’s word through the scripture.

Their voices make real the presence of God among us through the living words of scripture. They commit themselves to reflecting upon and preparing the readings for the week. They proclaim the Scripture to the assembly, lead the people in the prayer of the faithful, and lead the procession in and out of the church with the book and cross.

Ministry of Pastoral Music

Pastoral musicians lead the assembly in prayer through music.

Musicians prepare the songs that enliven our celebration of the sacred mysteries. Pastoral musicians rehearse weekly to prepare to lead the people in worship through song. Musician must commit to exercising their ministry of music at a particular weekly liturgy (6pm, 8pm, or 10pm) and are asked to be available for special holy day celebrations and university events.
