Want to join? This is what we're looking for:
Rehearsal and Mass Accompanists
Students who have intermediate/advanced piano/keyboard skills are needed to
assist with whole group rehearsals, sectionals, and ensemble leadership at the
8pm and 10pm Sunday Masses. If you sight read well, have prior
choral/instrumental accompaniment experience, these positions are certainly for
you. Students with advanced piano training will be offered the opportunity to
transfer their gifts to the pipe organ. For further information, contact Don
Giannella, director; after registering for pastoral music.
Vocalists
Tenors, Bases, Sopranos, Altos (in that order!) are always needed. To achieve
the proper voice balance, we need 2 new male recruits for every one female
recruit. There are no auditions, but prior choral experience is helpful. Section
leaders are available to help new members with little prior choral experience
learn the various voice parts. C'mon guys, it's accepted here!
Brass
Currently we have two trumpeters. We are looking to expand our brass section
to include trombone, french horn and tuba. Our goal this year is to have a
festival brass student quartet/quintet for special university occasions. Offer
your talent so this university dream can become a reality.
Strings
Our string section keeps growing but we are especially searching for
cellists, (string bassists?!) violists and, of course violinists. Along with the
proposed brass ensemble, we would like to have a compliment of string
instruments for use as a chamber group for special liturgies and seasonal
concerts.
Percussion
We are looking for a percussionist for each Sunday evening liturgy. Students
with band/orchestra experience are especially welcome (timpani, chimes, other
percussion) as well as students with a penchant for ensemble work with trap set
and more contemporary arrangements. Our goal is to have a 'drummer' for each
Sunday evening Mass. (you must have your own drum set, or weekly access to a set
which you can bring to Church). Some limited storage facilities for drums is
available, see Don Giannella after registering for Pastoral Music.
Wind Instruments: Flute/Oboe/Clarinet
Yes. Intermediate/advanced skills with good sight reading helpful.
Clarinetists will need to develop a skill in transposing some C music for B-flat.
Guitar
Of Course! Our goal is to have at least two or three for each Sunday evening
Mass. Mostly acoustic, some potential need for excellent electric guitarists and
electric bassists.
All of the above rehearse weekly (Tuesday, 5:30-7pm) in the Church and 45
minutes prior to each student's assigned Mass. (Everyone is assigned to one
evening Mass and serves at that Mass for the entire semester).
