Habitat
for Humanity, HFH, is an international organization that builds
homes or rehabilitates homes for those who would otherwise live in
inadequate housing. HFH relies on donations of money and labor to
sustain its existence. Each family who applies for a house must
commit to hundreds of hours of labor before their application is
approved. They purchase the house with no interest mortgages that
will be adjusted according to their ability to pay and maintain
family life. You will donate a week’s labor and money toward the
materials that you will use while you are away.
You
will be building for 4 1/2 to 5 days. You will work alongside Villanova
students, site supervisors, community member and homeowners to
build/repair homes. Reflections, friendship, and openness to
spirituality are essential for a full and rewarding experience. You
will be sharing in cooking and cleaning and leading reflections and
will create memories that will last you a lifetime.
There
are numerous Habitat service experiences offered around the United
States. The cost of your trip will depend on airfare, rental vans,
site donation, etc. The cost is usually between $300-$800.
