Retreat Council

The Villanova University Retreat Council is a group of students who work with Campus Ministry Staff to create a vision for the Retreat Program, and also lead some of the retreats themselves.

Hi! I'm Emily Trancik, a junior biology major/ theology minor from Flemington, New Jersey. I love anything and everything Villanova Campus Ministry and I'm so excited to be part of Retreat Council this year! While I'm not playing with chemicals in a lab, I enjoy singing at Mass with Pastoral Musicians, participating in service break trips and retreats, or just hanging out around campus. My freshman year at Villanova has been the best of my life!

Hey everybody, I’m Jon Mattise and I’m a senior studying communication and marketing. I’m from Scranton, PA, aka Steamtown and the home of the coal mines. I spend my time writing for the Villanova Times, leading a Get Real group, doing Basketball Executive Board stuff, playing all the intramurals I possibly can, traveling, meeting new people, going on retreats and playing basketball, tennis, golf, baseball, and so on. I spent my summer writing sports for a newspaper in Florida, and I’m a big sports fan, especially Nova basketball. Hope to see everybody on the retreats!

My name is Flavia Godoy and I’m a senior majoring in Economics and Spanish from the Arts and Sciences College. I am originally from Brazil, hence why you probably don’t know how to pronounce my name just yet, and I’ve lived in Rye Brook (Westchester), NY, all my life. I go back to Brazil a lot to visit my family a lot and I do also speak Portuguese. Go Wildcats!

Hey everyone! I’m Katie McManus, a junior representing Long Island as I come from Port Washington, NY. I love spending my summers on the beach and going skiing in the winter, and I absolutely LOVE Villanova. I am hoping to declare a major in Human Services, with minors in Psychology and Sociology because I love helping and reaching out to other people. At Villanova I have been involved in Special Olympics and Student Government, Ruibal Challenge, Get Real, Freshman Escape, Eucharistic Ministry, and a Sping Break Habitat For Humanity trip to Sumter, South Carolina. I love the Campus Ministry program and I am so excited to help out with planning and going on more retreats throughout this year!
Hello everyone! My name is Amanda Shultz and I am a junior Liberal Arts Major from Findlay, Ohio. I love being here at Villanova and enjoy being a part of the VU Band, Pastoral Musicians, and the Service Learning Community. Last year, I attended the Connections Retreat, Freshmen Escape, and served on a Habitat for Humanity trip to Sumter, South Carolina. I love retreats! During retreats, I have enjoyed reflecting on my life, serving others, forming friendships, and growing stronger in my relationship with God. I am extremely excited about being part of the Retreat Council and I am thrilled that I have the opportunity to help my fellow Villanovans have awesome retreat experiences!
Yanos, Marissa Yanos. I’m a junior in the College of Liberal Arts and originally from Kohala, Hawai’i. My favorite pastimes include: power yoga, reading Jack Handey books, baking, trying my hands at crafts, constructing sand castles, and watching surgery shows. I’m a proud member of Alumni’s Urban Bridges Adult Literacy Program, VU Rock Climbing and, of course, the Retreat Council! I love participating on break service trips and Villanova’s annual Handicapped Encounter of Christ retreats. I’m majoring in Psychology and have my sight set on a minor in Japanese and English and a concentration in East Asian studies. If any of you would like to meet up and discuss upcoming retreats please feel free to e-mail me at marissa.yanos@villanova.edu. Until we meet, have a good one!

Hey everyone! I’m Beth Awalt, a sophomore math major (minors in education and peace and justice) from Baltimore, MD. I love Villanova, especially Campus Ministry activities! Last year I participated in four retreats, and I’m looking forward to leading and going on more this year. Aside from weekend getaways, I love going on break trips and volunteering in any way possible. I’m also involved in STAND, the anti-genocide coalition, as well as FOCUS, the Christian worship group. If you see me around campus, feel free to introduce yourself – I love meeting new people!
