Many times, a working professional is interested in gaining more experience
and knowledge in a specific area. Graduate Certificates allow students the
benefit of specialization in only four to five courses. A Certificate may
be completed along with a degree program or unaccompanied as a career enhancer.
To meet these needs, the College offers certificate programs in various
disciplines. Several courses are offered through Distance Education. Certificate
programs are comprised of four or five courses which also could be applied
towards a degree.
A student admitted into the Engineering College graduate program may
choose to complete a four or five course graduate certificate. Although
many Engineering graduate students choose one of these areas of concentration
during their graduate studies, it is not necessary to complete a certificate
program as part of the master's degree. It is also not necessary to complete
the master's degree program in order to receive a certificate. Some students
choose only to complete the four or five courses required for a particular
certificate and not pursue the master's degree. In either case, a graduate
student who completes the four or five courses in a certificate program
with an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater in those courses will receive a certificate
indicating the successful completion of the certificate program.
