Environmental Sustainability Track

Description

Sustainability policies and programs are now entering the mainstream in all aspects of the US and global economy. Since sustainability involves the successful integration of environmental, economic and social aspects of any issue, 21st Century Engineers will require a broad mindset and tools to solve these challenges. There is a growing demand for engineers in the corporate, consulting, governmental, and non-profit sectors to undertake work either directly or indirectly involving sustainability opportunities. The Environmental Sustainability track is targeted toward the engineer seeking an overall understanding of how to apply sustainable solutions to complex problems. It is the "generalist" track among the four tracks within the MS in Sustainable Engineering.

Explanation of Track Curriculum

After completing the three MS Core courses, the student will have a thorough understanding of the scope, principles and tools for identifying issues and solving problems related to Sustainability challenges. The Environmental Sustainability Track elective courses are designed to allow the student to build on the MS Core courses based on their individual needs and interests. The student can select four courses from among the list to the left. In addition, the student can pursue either a thesis or elective course option. With elective courses, a student can select up to three courses from within the MS program but outside of the Environmental Sustainability track.
