Scalable Emergency Response Systems for
Oceangoing Assets, Ablaze Systems
CENDAC has received a sizeable grant from Ablaze Systems to conduct
research to support a project titled “Scalable Emergency Response
Systems for Oceangoing Assets.” As a part of this project, we will be
investigating the following:
- Aquatic Mobile Robotic Systems
- Cable Driven Monitoring and Decontamination Robotic System
- Optical Fibers for Detection of Radionuclide Contamination
- Micro-array Technology for Bio-Detection
- Chemical Weapon Detection in Water
The research team consists of Dr. C. Nataraj, Dr. Hashem Ashrafiuon,
Dr. Rosalind Wynne, Dr. Metin Duran and Dr. Randy Weinstein.
New Addition: 5500 Series Atomic Force
Microscope
CENDAC has purchased an advanced Atomic Force Microscope using the
funds from a research project from Advanced Ceramics Manufacturing along
with a supporting grant from the College of Engineering. The AFM is a
Series 5500 from Agilent and comes with a noise and vibration isolation
chamber, a fluid cell kit, a video microscope, a controller and multiple
nose cones. This advanced microscope significantly enhances
nanomaterials research in the College of Engineering and is housed in
the High Resolution Microscopy Laboratory in CEER.

2007 IDETC/CIE Conference on Rotor Dynamics,
Las Vegas, September 4-7, 2007
The symposium, 'Rotor Dynamics: Nonlinear Analysis, Control &
Diagnostics (VIB - 17)' under the 21st Biennial Conference on Mechanical
Vibration and Noise will take place in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino,
Las Vegas, Nevada, from September 4-7, 2007. The 21st Biennial
Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise (VIB) is an integral part
of the 2007 ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences
and Computers and Information in Engineering Conferences (2007 IDETC/CIE).
The objective is to provide a venue for the discussion of the
nonlinear aspects of rotor and bearing dynamics, active control of rotor
vibrations, the condition monitoring, diagnostics and signal processing
techniques related to rotor dynamics. Papers are sought from all areas
of Rotor Dynamics, including but not limited to the following:
- Nonlinear dynamics and chaos in rotating machinery systems
- Active control of rotor vibration
- Condition monitoring, diagnostics and signal processing
- Dynamics of bearings and seals (fluid film, rolling element and
magnetic)
- Rotor dynamics in micro machinery
- Parametric and self excitation in rotating machinery
- Modeling of defects in rolling element bearings
- Stability analysis in rotating machinery
- Fluid structure interactions in rotating machinery
- Cracked rotors (Modeling, identification and monitoring)
