- The Water Resources Teaching and Research Laboratory (WRTRL) is located in
room 102 ChE, and is used to support water resources classes and graduate and
undergraduate research. The campus stormwater infrastructure is an extension of
this lab and is used extensively in undergraduate water resources classes. The
field sites include a stormwater wetland, porous paving, green roof and several
infiltration test sites.
- WRTRL supports research into the hydrologic and environmental performance of
numerous on campus stormwater Best Management Practices. This work is
coordinated through the Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership
(VUSP). The Laboratory capabilities include:
- Total and Dissolved Solids Testing
- HACH DR/4000 Spectrophotometer
- Determines total nitrogen and total phosphorous, in ppm
- HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography)
- Used to determine the concentrations (ppm) of the following ions: Cl-, NO2(-)
as N, NO3(-) as N, and PO4(3-) as P.
- PE ZL 4100 Graphite Furnace & PE 2380 Atomic Absorption Spectrometer
- Detects dissolved and suspended concentrations (ppb) of cadmium, chromium,
copper, and lead
- Easy Chem Plus Auto Analyzer
- Used to determine the concentrations (ppm) of the following ions: Cl-, NO2(-)
as N, NO3(-) as N, and PO4(3-) as P
- TKN, TKP
- Support for hydrologic instrumentation
- Support for Hach Portable Water Quality Test kits
- The facility has direct access to roadway to facilitate the loading and off
loading of equipment and samples.
