We are a team of dedicated scholar-teachers who approach both
teaching and research with equal enjoyment and revel in our students’
learning. The atmosphere is one of collegiality and an interactive
community.
Our Bachelor’s program is a broad education consisting of a strong
fundamental technical coursework with a significant liberal arts
component, and a laboratory component to link theory with reality. The
program aims to develop important attributes such as communication
skills, teamwork and ethical values. The program is flexible with a
choice of senior electives in many traditional and emerging areas; it is
also possible to pursue minors in many areas including business,
biology, and mathematics. All our undergraduate courses are taught by
professors and the classes are small (typically less than 25) to
encourage active participation by the students.
The students have many opportunities for co-curricular activities
such as summer internships, undergraduate research experience,
leadership opportunities with professional societies, study abroad
programs, and service projects in US and abroad. The ME undergraduate
program is currently ranked in the top 10 in the country by US World &
News Report among institutions in the Master’s category. Our graduates
have been very successful in pursuing technical careers as well as
diverse areas such as medicine and law.
Our Master’s program is geared both for the research-oriented
students who want to pursue a PhD program as well as practicing
engineers who are looking to significantly improve their technical
skills. Many concentrations are possible including certificate programs.
Most full-time students are supported by research grants and
departmental assistantships.
An ME student wishing to pursue the PhD program which is offered
through the College would be supported by courses offered in the ME
department. The students may also take many interdisciplinary courses
offered through the College. The ME faculty are very active in research
and have several funded grants to support the PhD program.
