Mechanical Engineering Faculty Research
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the faculty perform research to further their expertise and satisfy the intellectual urge. This research is funded either through external sources or internally and supports the department's full-time graduate students. Interested undergraduate students participate in these activities as well.

Recent funded projects involving several faculty and students include Micro-robotics and control, and electronic cooling.

The areas of interest of faculty research are the same as the areas of graduate study:

Solid Mechanics and Materials:

  • elasticity
  • composite materials
  • fracture mechanics

Chun, Jen, Raulli, McLaughlin

CAD/CAM/Automation:

  • CAD
  • finite elements
  • design optimization
  • CAM
  • materials processing
  • robotics

Radhakrishnan, Raulli, Santhanam

Thermal Sciences:

  • heat transfer
  • fluid mechanics
  • thermodynamics
  • nuclear engineering

Fleischer, Jones, Kroos, Wu,
Marston, McAssey

Dynamics and Control:

  • vibrations
  • controls
  • advanced and multibody dynamics
  • rotor dynamics
  • robotics
  • mechatronics
